What makes us happy? Yesterday in church, our bishop gave a lesson on this topic and the discussions that resulted really bothered me. So rather than stage a mutiny during Relief Society, I decided to first vent to my friends and then share it on my blog.
The lesson started out with the bishop asking us to make a list on the board of things that do and do not make you happy. First, he wrote $1 million under the "Does" list and asked if this was correct. Immediately some girls on the front row (figures. I was on the back row by the way) said No! I don't know about you, but I would be made extremely happy by $1 million. I could pay for school (including grad school), travel a bit, maybe donate some (in order to show some humility you see). They eventually decided to put the money in the middle of the two lists because they decided it wasn't necessarily a bad thing either. However, by the time we were done with our list, fame and fortune were both on the side of things that "Do Not" cause happiness. This made me very upset.
Happiness is a totally relative concept. It's based on attitude, situation, individual personalities, etc. What makes one person happy may not make another person happy. For example, I can tell you 100% that although watching Pride and Prejudice makes me very happy, it makes my brother want to kill himself. Not literally, but you get the picture. Plus, one thing that has always been a pet peeve of mine is when people insist that those with money and/or fame do not have happiness. Particularly those who aquired those things throught acting, musical, or athletic talent. That is bull. Just because a person has either fame or fortune does not mean they automatically are going to have a miserable life. It's the way you live your life, what you choose to do with that fame/money that will determine your level of happiness. And like I said before, it's all relative. So who are we to judge? That's my soap box on happiness.

Positivity...is that even a word?
So I was talking to some friends and realized that my blog is completely negative. It's funny because in high school, people used to tell me that I was such a positive person. But if you've read my blog, you've probably noticed that I whine a lot. This is not good. So I will do my best to be more positive on here, and in general. By the way, Celtics kick trash! Just thought I'd throw that out there. :)

Summer Fest 2008
Today I had my first experience with the Logan Summer Fest that everybody gets so excited about. There were so many people there! I didn't know there were that many people in Logan! ha ha But it was fun to see all the cool things that people have in their booths, ranging from pictures, painting, clothes, jewelery, even something called exotic spoons. Interesting. I ate some fabulous Cafe Sabor (taco salad to be specific) and then Holly, Janette and I set out to find the Henna tattoo lady so we could be wicked cool. However, our search was not fruitful and it left Holly ready to cry. I was crying on the inside. All the rumors of these awesome Henna tattoos at Summer Fest and now I don't have one. So sad. But then we just walked around, saw half A-Team and all of Logan, before deciding it was time to leave. It was fun and I will definitely be returning. I give it a B+, some points deducted for the lack of Henna. :)

Love Love Me
You know you've either grown up or you're going crazy when you're sick of not having a job. ha ha I've been looking for one the last couple of weeks and it hit me today that not only do I really need a job, but I really want one too! So weird. I never thought I would look forward to getting another job.
I just watched 13 Going on 30 and it really made me think. (Here comes Nerd Alyssa for you). We all try to grow up so fast. We want to be older, more mature, and be allowed all the privileges and activities that come with growing up. But let's take a step back and really consider this. Wouldn't we all love to be care free again? Not have to worry about money, school, and life in general? And as great as all that sounds I would have to say no. I wouldn't ever want to be younger. Although I am not in any hurry whatsoever to grow up (unless of course, I could get out of school faster), I love the life that I have. I love being on my own and creating my own life with the people that I choose to include in it. I am really enjoying all the learning and growing that I am doing, even though most of the time you'll hear me complaining about it. I think that people need to be more content with who they are and how their life is now than to wish they were older, younger, or whatever else. Love who you are. That's the bottom line. And quit trying to grow up so fast dang it!
