Plans that Fail

I am a person who likes order, planning, rules, things like that. When I was like 7 I decided I was going to get straight A's through high school, get a full ride to an Ivy League school and be something prestigious like a lawyer or a doctor. My career path plans changed around a lot but stayed in the medical realm, floating between Nurse, Physician's Assistant, Physical Therapist, and Doctor among a couple of random thoughts that didn't last very long.
I didn't get straight A's through high school (though I am still proud of my grades), I didn't get a full ride scholarship (though I did get some good ones), and I didn't end up at an Ivy League. But I found a place where I fit, where I'm happy and where I've found a major that I love and that interests me. But once again, life is surprising me. My childhood plans are now completely obsolete now that I have absolutely no idea what I want to do with my life. I only have three semesters left at Utah State University and then what? Graduate school. Awesome! But in what?? Do I want to get my masters degree in Sports Medicine and go from there? Do I still try for something like PA or PT school? What do I want?! That's a question that I do not have an answer to and it really bothers me. I like to know what the plans are for the future and it bugs me that I can't stick to anything. Nothing sounds interesting. I know I'll figure it out. I believe everything happens for a reason and that everything works out the way it's supposed to. It's just frustrating being where I am right now. My dad tells me "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail". I'm trying to plan! Is there a saying about plans failing?

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day, so I guess I should make a little gratitude list to make this post a little bit more positive. I am grateful for:
  • A healthy body
  • My opportunity to get an education and to study something I find interesting
  • My supportive and loving parents
  • My sometimes frustrating, never a dull moment, amazing siblings
  • The Gospel and the blessing it is to have it in my life and to have always had it
  • Friends that know me so well and love me for me
  • Music that's uplifting, makes me happy, gets me pumped (work out music)
So there you have it. My mini gratitude list.

I'm going to post some basketball pictures like I promised I'd do forever ago. Last night they played Idaho State and we won 77-44. One week til the game of all games, USU vs. BYU!!!! They're getting creamed!

Spectrum on Wheels in back in motion!

So I'm at work and avoiding finishing a paper I have due tomorrow (it's for Consumer Health. booorrrinngg!!!). So what better way to spend my time than to blog! First, I am going to post a couple pictures for your viewing delight.

This picture I just found funny because of my love for blogs. It's so true that the reason they start out is so you can say whatever you want and the chances are that not many people (even within the range of your relatives) will read it. But oh well, here I am, still saying whatever the heck I want to say.

Speaking of blogs, this week I discovered one of my favorite blogs ever thanks to my mom! It's called "Confessions from a Mormon Bachelor Pad". It's written by these two boys in Salt Lake (anonymous, as is everything on their blog) and they talk about anything and everything, especially the dating world. It is incredibly entertaining and hilarious. I always look forward to a new post and I've converted a few of my roommates to MBP also. It's funny because when my mom first told me about it, I though it sounded stupid and ridiculous, now I can't get enough! It's awesome.

A friend of mine borrowed my zip drive the other day and this is what I found saved on it. Not really sure what it is or what it was used for...but it's kinda a neat picture. So there it is. Posted for the world to see. Hopefully it wasn't supposed to be some secret or something.

Tonight I am traveling down to Weber State University to watch our Men's Basketball team take on the Wildcats (that name just makes me want to gag. thank you High School Musical). This game is the first one of the official season! WOOT! It's gonna be a good game! I hear Weber actually has a decent team and the last time we played down there we lost. No bueno! So it's gonna be rough but the Spectrum on Wheels (the name we have for the group of students that go to away games. The Spectrum is where we play at home, so away from home...on wheels!) will be there loud and clear to show our love for the Aggies and our disdain for any opponent of ours, tonight Weber State. After the game, rather than drive through the evil Sardine Canyon late at night, we are staying the night at Desiree's parents' house who live just 20 minutes away from Weber. Then we'll come back in the morning and go to the second to last football game at 1 pm. Oh yeah and at some point, finish this paper. Totally doable before I leave work! :) Busy but fun weekend!

Game Day shirt on: Check!
Packed for overnight trip: Check!
New decal on my car that says "Utah State University": Check!

As soon as work gets out, I'm hitting the road! GO AGGIES! GO AGGIES! HEY! HEY! HEY!

What did I tell you?!

So as an A-Team member, I get to tell lots of new students what to do and what not to do. All summer and still into the school year, I give out my words of advice, use stories and personal experiences as scare tactics, and ingrain in them all the important things they better get done if they want to graduate in a timely manner. Well for the last couple weeks, I have been trying to work out not only my schedule for next semester but also one for next year. As I only have 3 semesters left of my undergrad, I need to make sure everything is going to fit and that all my classes are going to be get done in time to graduate in Spring 2011. This was not an easy task to do, especially when I discovered a new prerequisite I had not previously known about. Well, I finally got my schedule down to something I could manage and I was ready to register! Now, USU does Priority registration, which means that when you register depends on how many credits you have. The minute midnight hits that is your class's time to register, it's chaos and you fight everyone for the classes that fill up quickly. Well, I am considered a Senior since I have 93 completed credits. Now I was so excited to be considered a senior because they are the very first to register (besides the Grad students) and I thought this would give me a really good chance at getting all the classes I have to have this semester in order to be on track for finishing out next year. Well, my registration day was Tuesday. Yup, today! Last night I thought, I register tomorrow, thinking "tomorrow night". I was gravely mistaken. I should have registered last night. By the time I went to register this afternoon when I realized my mistake, two of my crucial classes were full. Now I have to recreate my entire schedule for the next three semesters and hope it works out. Woe is me! I can't wait to get in and talk to my advisor next week! Until then, I have a tentative schedule and I'm hoping it will all work out. I can't believe I did this after harping on my students for the last two weeks to make sure they know their registration day so this exact thing didn't happen to them. I need to start paying attention to my own advice. haha
